THE COUNCIL FOR THE INDIAN SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS

        The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is a non-governmental, privately held board of school education in India. It was established in 1958 with the aim of providing an Indian alternative to the overseas Cambridge School Certificate Examination. It was established in 1958. Over 2750 schools in India and abroad are affiliated to the CISCE. It is also recognized as a 'Non-Governmental National Board of Secondary Education'.  CISCE conducts ICSE exam for Class 10 and ISC exam for Class 12.

Key examinations :-

The CISCE conducts two primary examinations:

  • Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE): For Class 10.
  • Indian School Certificate (ISC): For Class 12.

In addition, the council also administers the Certificate in Vocational Education (CVE) for Year 12. 


Curriculum and Affiliation :-

  • Curriculum: The CISCE curriculum focuses on comprehensive and application-based learning, emphasizing English language skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities. It also incorporates a global outlook and encourages practical learning through projects, experiments, and field trips.
  • Affiliation: Over 3,100 schools in India and abroad are affiliated with the CISCE. Schools seeking affiliation must meet specific criteria, including obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state government, being run by a registered society/trust/company, having a properly constituted governing body, possessing financial stability, maintaining English as the medium of instruction, having qualified and trained staff, and providing adequate infrastructure and facilities. 

Notable aspects :-

1)Derozio Award: The CISCE awards the annual Derozio Award to top Indian educationists for their contributions to the field of education.

2)Online Results: The CISCE was one of the first Indian boards to provide examination results online in 1999.

3)Revised Syllabus: The CISCE board has revised the syllabi for both Class 10 and 12, focusing on the overall development of students.

4)Digital Literacy and Environmental Awareness: The updated Class 10 syllabus includes topics such as coding, data analysis, digital citizenship, climate change, conservation, and renewable energy to prepare students for the digital age and foster environmental responsibility.
