GUJARAT SECONDARY AND HIGHER BOARD
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) is the official governing body for secondary and higher secondary education in the state of Gujarat. It is responsible for setting academic policies, administering examinations, and managing schools.
Key responsibilities
- Curriculum and textbooks: Preparing the syllabus and recommending textbooks for secondary and higher secondary schools.
- Conducting examinations: GSEB organizes and conducts the main board examinations for Class 10 and Class 12, as well as supplementary exams for students who need to retake them.
- Recognition and inspection: The board is responsible for recognizing new schools, inspecting existing ones, and evaluating their performance.
- GUJCET: GSEB is also the conducting body for the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET), used for admission to engineering and pharmacy courses.
Board examinations
- Secondary School Certificate (SSC): This is the exam for students in Class 10. The GSEB SSC exams are held annually, typically in February and March.
- Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC): This is the exam for students in Class 12. HSC exams are held for Science, General (Arts and Commerce), and Vocational streams.
